Socialism isn’t just growing across the country– it’s winning too.
YDSA is building a better world! Across the nation, chapters are fighting fascism and growing socialism. In Florida, where repression against trans rights and bodily autonomy, chapters are fighting back! Florida International University YDSA and Rollins College YDSA have both won free Plan B, providing students with critical reproductive healthcare in a state that has banned abortions at six weeks.
As soon as you plant a rose on your campus, your new YDSA chapter can make a huge impact. Florida State University YDSA, a brand new chapter, brought LGBTQ+ housing back to campus after the university quietly removed safe housing in an effort to appease the Florida state government.
Beyond the campus, YDSA is also winning at the polls. Cornell YDSA member Hannah Shvets won the primary for Ithaca Common Council Ward 5 as a result of months of hard work from her and her chapter, knocking doors, phonebanking, and winning young voters over to socialism. Colorado State University, Fort Collins, CO
ICE off CSU Campus!
In the spring of 2025, CSU-YDSA engaged in our first major campaign and mass action to date. We met early in the winter to discuss the prospects of a sanctuary campus campaign to protect our undocumented student population through measures to ensure school cop’s non-compliance with ICE and that the administration was properly training staff for the event of an ICE raid on our campus. After a long period of deliberation with membership, we published a petition with our demands that received over 3,000 signatures in under a month! These signatures would be gathered through social media, an intensive flyering campaign, and tabling for student engagement. Just 12 days after the publishing of this petition, we would march on our administration building and deliver over 70 pages of signatures and comments to our university president. A few weeks later, the university would capitulate to our demands, and CSUPD would release a statement promising non-compliance with ICE. We bet that agitation and early action in the Trump administration would catch our board of governors off balance, and we were right.
NYC YDSA, New York City, NY
NYC YDSA on Zohran Mamdani’s mayoral primary campaign
Our NYC chapters at Fordham, CCNY, Hunter, Columbia, The New School, Brooklyn College, and NYU canvased students, knocked countless doors and inspired comrades from across the country to travel to NYC in order to knock doors for Zohran Mamdani. Culminating in a landslide victory, and a Ugandan-born democratic socialist becoming the Democratic Mayoral candidate in this upcoming 2025 general election.
New York City YDSA chapters have long been a part of Mamdani’s work, for the years it has taken to build towards this mayoral run. From the introduction of the REPAIR campaign in 2023 (which would fund the CUNY system by removing the Tax exempt status of private institutions like Columbia and NYU), to making up a core part of the the tens of thousands who knocked doors leading up to the historic primary election.
University of Oregon YDSA, Eugene, OR
UO (UOSW) began in early 2022 as a project of UO YDSA’s labor committee, starting off doing student worker advocacy to form the nucleus of a campaign to unionize UO student workers, wall-to-wall. After a card signing campaign and ballot election, UOSW was certified in November 2023 and represents over 3,500 workers, making it the largest union to come out of any DSA effort as well as the first independent wall-to-wall student worker union at a public university! After a year of bargaining and a 10 day strike, UOSW secured a historic first contract in May 2025. UOSW’s contract includes; sick leave for work-study students, wage increases across campus, third-party arbitration for anti-harassment & non-discrimination, health & safety protections, just cause, & fair discipline language.

New Chapter Trainings
We’ve designed this training specifically for students starting new YDSA chapters or trying to revive or relaunch chapters that have gone dormant. We’ll start with organizing basics and give you everything you need to jumpstart your chapter this Fall. No prior organizing experience necessary!
Fall Drive Launch Call
This call is primarily for leaders of chapters that are carrying over from Spring 2024 or earlier – though new chapters are still welcome. At this meeting you’ll get the opportunity to work with and learn from student leaders from chapters across the country. We’ll have strategic discussions about fighting ICE, red state challenges, leadership development, chapter structure, labor, and how we can best use NYC DSA’s win in the recent mayoral primary.
